Kate Reid

Slam poetry meets folk music and LGBTQ-themed tunes in celebrated queer-musical-activist Kate Reid. Her work is smart, funny, and biting; but it is also poignant and sweetly lyrical in the finest singer/songwriter tradition.

SPACE IS LIMITED AND YOU MUST RSVP to Sounds & Furies to reserve a spot.

Based in Toronto, Ontario, Kate holds a Master of Arts from The University of British Columbia's Institute for Gender, Race, Sexuality, and Social Justice. She is a guitar-playing, harmonica-slinging singer-songwriter, and bona-fide storyteller with rapid-fire delivery. Her lyrics are honest and poignant: sometimes hard-hitting, sometimes hilarious, always insightful. Her songs brim with socio-political and personal commentary: Kate's passion is music with a message. Her critically acclaimed work as artist includes five independently-released albums: Kate Reid (EP - 2005), Comin’ Alive (2006), I'm Just Warming Up (2009), Doing it for the Chicks (2011), and Queer Across Canada (2013), which is a collection of songs that Kate wrote and recorded based on interviews she conducted with LGBTQ families. She tours across Canada and into the USA and Europe performing at music festivals, Pride festivals, live music venues, and in people’s living rooms. Nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award in 2009, and cited as “Favourite New Discovery” in 2009 by Penguin Eggs - Canada’s Folk, Roots, and World Music Magazine, Kate Reid is sure to entertain.
