Julia Spitale

Come Celebrate the release of Julia Spitale's great new album, "Good Again". The record is cool for any number of reasons, not the least of which is Julia's terrific songwriting talent. But it was also recorded and mixed (by Vancouver's great Michael Averill) exclusively at the Vancouver Public Library!

Julia started playing publicly with the release of her first album, "Songs from the Cottage", which she toured across BC in 2009.

Her one-off songwriting projects have also been notable.  In 2010, she wrote a song with the kids of Frog Hollow Neighbourhood House for the Canadian Cancer Society about what makes a healthy hero. She recorded the single "Women or Man #4" in 2011.   More recently, in 2016, she wrote and performed "Steel Hands" for the 2016 Ironworkers Memorial Service in Vancouver, in honour of the men who lost their lived during the Second Narrows Bridge Disaster of 1958.

With an abiding passion for sustainable farming, the ability to dream-up a fabulous project on-the-fly, and a taste for adventure, Julia embarked on the Wheely Slow Cooking Tour in 2011 with fellow singer/songwriter Shera Kelly. The two performed concerts on farms, cooked with their hosts, and interviewed farmers about where their food comes from. Sharing online webisodes along the way, they toured from Salt Spring Island to Halifax -- 30 communities in two months. The  tour received extensive media attention, and Julia and Shere have recounted their experiences at PechaKucha events in Vancouver and  Salt Spring, and well as at local high schools and sustainable food events.
